ATP or adenosine triphosphate is the energy source used for all body processes. ATP is manufactured through a complex process in a tiny part of the cell known as the mitochondria. Within the mitochondria, CoQ10 plays a major role in the production of energy (ATP) and as an antioxidant to help protect the cell. In order to carry out these respective tasks, CoQ10 gets converted from the ubiquinone form, which is involved in the production of energy (ATP), to the ubiquinol form, which functions as an antioxidant. Age and health deficiencies, however, can affect the body’s ability to manufacture ubiquinol from the ubiquinone form. This can lead to sub-optimal levels which can reduce energy production and weaken the body’s immune and antioxidant defenses. Supplementation with CoQ10 in the reduced, ubiquinol form, supports the body’s antioxidant requirements to help combat free radicals, while helping it to maintain healthy ATP (energy) levels.†

Benefits
Provides a direct source of ubiquinol bypassing the need for conversion.
Several factors such as aging, certain medications and disease state can affect the conversion of ubiquinone to ubiquinol.†
Ubiquinol CoQH offers improved absorption and bioavailability, especially to individuals who fall into one of the above categories and have difficulty achieving optimal levels of this nutrient.†
High levels of energy (ATP) are necessary for the optimal function of all body systems. Ubiquinol plays an indirect role in providing support for the production of optimal levels of ATP.†
In addition to its role in energy production, the main role of ubiquinol (reduced CoQ10) is its ability to help neutralize free radicals by providing antioxidant support.†

Melatonin is a hormone that is secreted by a part of the brain called the pineal gland. The synthesis of melatonin begins with L-tryptophan which is converted into 5–HTP then to serotonin and then to melatonin. Production of melatonin is under the influence of part of the brain known as the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus receives information from the retina of the eye, about the daily patterns of light and dark. The result is the production of physiological and behavioral circadian rhythms. These circadian rhythms help control various functions in the body including the wake/sleep cycle.† The amount of melatonin produced varies; synthesis is increased in the dark and decreased in the light. As darkness approaches, melatonin production increases, helping prepare the body for sleep. Studies show that supplemental melatonin may help support a normal sleep cycle, help fight jet-lag, and in higher amounts provide antioxidant support.†

The human body is made up of many joints. These joints are essential to movement and our ability to undertake daily tasks. As we age, the integrity of our joints may become compromised. Injury, excess weight, poor nutrition, and disease can leave joints, stiff, swollen, achy, and with reduced mobility. Cartilage serves to protect the joints and is typically the first thing to be affected when problems develop. Type II Collagen is the major structural protein responsible for the tensile strength and resilience of cartilage. It comprises 85-90% of the collagen that makes up the smooth white tissue (articular cartilage) that covers the ends of the bones at the joint surface. Type II Collagen is also replete in go cosaminoglycans such as chondroitin sulfate and Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is concentrated in the synovial fluid that fills the joint cavities which is responsible for reducing friction between the articulating joints and acts a shock absorber.†

Cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of mortality in the United States. One of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease is elevated total and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. There are several categories of prescription drugs that are designed to help lower cholesterol; the most commonly prescribed being the Statin drugs. Statins are effective at lowering total and LDL cholesterol, but they are associated with significant side effects. Many individuals with elevated cholesterol have been able to improve their cardiovascular health through diet, exercise, and nutraceutical supplements. One of the nutraceuticals that has been shown in research studies to support normal LDL and total cholesterol levels is red yeast rice. Red yeast rice is the product of yeast (Monascus purpureus) grown on rice, and is served as a dietary staple in some Asian countries. It contains several compounds that are collectively known as monacolins which support the mechanisms that can lead to improved cardiovascular health.† It is also important to support healthy liver function when taking red yeast rice or a Statin. Therefore, Red Yeast Rice Plus is combined with CoQ10 as well as compounds N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) and standardized milk thistle for added liver support.†
